Bordeaux 2010 en primeur: great value clarets Tour St Bonnet, Cissac and Beaumont

The first wines from Bordeaux’s excellent 2010 vintage to excite us have finally been released. As we brace ourselves for breath-taking price increases from the big names it is great to see some gorgeous Cru Bourgeois at excellent prices.

A few personal favourites were released last week – Cissac, La Tour St Bonnet and Beaumont. These Cabernet Sauvignon-rich Médoc wines display fabulous pure cassis fruit and relatively well-balanced alcohol levels. These châteaux are currently at the top of their games, their wines offering rewarding drinking for the next 10 years or more.

We offer these wines as futures, for shipment in 2013. Price per case of 12 bottles, in bond (IB).

Château Tour St Bonnet, Cru Bourgeois,  Médoc   £85 IB

Tour St Bonnet
An opaque, deep, dark black/red wine.
Lovely cassis aromas have hints of leaf and a touch of cedar.
There is excellent concentration of rich cassis fruit, with lots of firm but rounded tannins. The fruit is lifted by good crispness and the alcohol balanced to high. The finish is of good length, a very pleasing wine.

88-89/100 David Allen MW

Château Cissac, Cru Bourgeois, Haut-Médoc   £95 IB

Chateau Cissac 2010A deep dark, opaque, black/purple wine.
Vivid cassis aromas dominate the nose.
The beautifully concentrated fruit is supported by a big firm structure of dry cedary tannins. There is nice acidity that leaves well defined, juicy blackcurrant notes on the finish. The balanced alcohol contributes to the finesse. This is a typically firm Cissac that displays really lovely fruit.

                                                        88-90/100 David Allen MW

Château Beaumont, Cru Bourgeois, Haut-Médoc  £105 IB

Chateau BeaumontDeep, dark ruby red in colour.
The aromas combine ripe warm red fruits with leafy cabernet notes.
The palate has plenty of tannic grip and a core of jammy red fruit flavours that are given good length on the finish by nice fresh acidity. The finish combines dry tannic notes with warm alcoholic richness.
