A special parcel – four vintages from Pomerol

An exclusive parcel of four fabulous mature and maturing vintages from a brilliant small estate in Pomerol.

Bottle of Chateau St. Pierre, Pomerol

Chateau St. Pierre, Pomerol

This is a tiny (3 hectare) property, producing just 1200 cases a year (about one third of Petrus’ production), lies at the heart of Pomerol, just a stone’s throw from Eglise Clinet, Trotanoy, Vieux Château Certain and Le Pin. We have been impressed by quality and value for money offered by the estate’s wines but when we were offered a parcel of mature wines from their cellars, the samples caused quite a stir in the tasting room. These are classic, traditional, elegant Pomerols from four lovely ripe vintages, and at these prices they are a genuine steal!

Tasting notes by David Allen MW, Coe Vintners.

Château St Pierre 2005
Deep, dark, almost opaque ruby red colour at the core with a more developed brick red rim. Very rich, ripe, almost over-mature aromas of rasins and figs – Christmas pudding! The palate is very full bodied and smooth, with a velvety soft tannic structure. The rich black fruit flavours contain notes of chocolate and a liquorice bite. The finish is long and balanced acidity keeps it fresh.

Château St Pierre
2003
A medium to deep ruby red colour shows good development. The nose is a hedonistic combination of vivid mince-pie, chocolate, mushrooms and truffle aromas. Drinking beautifully now this is a rich, full, silky-smooth textured, voluptuous wine. The flavours are a lively compôte of red fruit overlaid by truffle and mushroom notes. There is a nice amount of velvety tannin and a long fresh finish.

Château St Pierre 2000
A deeply pigmented and almost opaque ruby red wine with a developed brick red rim. The aromas are a combination of delicate, lifted raspberry and strawberry aromas with developed mushroom and truffle notes. Mellower and more developed than the 2003 or 2005 wines this is leaner and more elegant with a fine structure. The long finish has a lovely freshness that continues developing in the glass.

Château St Pierre 1990 (was only available in half bottles) SOLD OUT
Retaining a medium to deep ruby red core this wine demonstrates its maturity with its broad brick red rim. The fully developed aromas are dominated by rich truffle notes. A beautifully smooth, rich textured wine whose ripe, red fruit flavours are interwoven with complex truffle notes. The finish is fresh and elegant with fine tannins. This wine is at or around its peak, a wonderful experience! SOLD OUT.
