2008 clarets just landed

Our latest fine wine offer:

Domaine de Chevalier rouge, Pessac-Leognan 2008

Domaine de Chevalier rouge, Pessac-Leognan 2008

Often overshadowed by the 2009s and downplayed by the trade at their launch, there are plenty of excellent wines from the 2008 vintage. Those of you without the patience to wait 2 years for 2010 en primeur wines to arrive would be well advised to look at the superb selection of 2008 clarets we have recently shipped. Our selection includes plenty of top flight clarets from the 2008 vintage, ranging from great value cru classé wines right up to two of the first growth stars of the vintage. With the exception of the first growths we have good availability of all these wines.

While I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend any of the wines in the selection, I would particularly draw people’s attention to the exceptionally well-priced Domaine de Chevalier, a beautifully poised, fresh, elegant wine offering vibrant clean fruit and good structure – at an incredible price for a wine that has been so highly rated. Those with a preference for powerful concentrated wines should look at the excellent Chateau Kirwan, an atypically muscular Margaux. The Chateau Haut Batailley offers classic Pauillac flavours in an approachable style at a great price, offering a (duty and VAT paid) case price per Parker point ratio of just £3.30! Finally there is Junior’s top tip for the 2008 vintage, Chateau Calon Ségur, normally a reliable wine but in this vintage manages to combine great richness with incredible poise and elegance.
